Baseball Hosts Nyack on Wednesday and Pace on Friday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 27, 2017) - The Mercy College baseball team prepares for a busy week beginning with hosting the Nyack College Warriors in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 29th at 1:00 pm. The Mavericks will then host the Pace University Setters in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, March 31st at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

The Mavericks are entering Tuesday's contest after earning a 7-3 victory over ECC foe University of Bridgeport on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field. Mercy was led by a complete game on the mound from freshman David Deberardinis and two RBI from senior Nick Arcabascio and junior Justin Kiesow. The Mavericks have multiple threats at the plate, one being junior Joseph Sadallah who currently has a team high .387 batting average, .548 slugging percentage, 14 runs scored and 24 hits. On the mound for the Mavericks is Kenny Costa who is sporting a 5.56 earned run average with a team high 22.2 innings pitched. Senior Matt Nalbone is another strong Maverick on the mound, recording a team best 17 strikeouts and two wins.

Scouting the Warriors

Nyack enters Tuesday's contest after dropping their first two conference games to Felician University on Saturday afternoon. The games finished with scores of 7-5 and 5-2. On the mound for the Warriors is senior Jose Corrales, who was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 13th. Corrales pitched a combined 10 innings over two games, including a combined no-hitter with teammate Kyle Tedesco in their 1-0 win over American Int'l. Corrales squared off with a combined 39 hitters and sent 17 of them straight back to dugout. Freshman Anthony Torreullas was also mentioned in the weekly CACC report, earning a spot on the CACC Honor Roll. He recorded nine hits, including three doubles, six RBI's, and scored four runs for the Warriors.

Scouting the Setters

The Pace University baseball team is coming off of a Northeast-10 Conference victory over Saint Anselm College on Sunday, March 26th. Leading the Setters was the strong Pace University pitching staff, who held the Hawks to just one run across two games in the sweep, earning 6-1 and 6-0 victories. Leading Pace at the plate is sophomore Michael Salmonese, who currently holds a .349 batting average, recording 22 hits, 17 runs, 10 RBI and four doubles for the Setters. On the mound for Pace is junior Ryan Aquino, who has thrown a total of 32.1 innings, earning a team best three wins and striking out 16 batters with a 2.78 earned run average. The Setters will take on the University of New Haven on Wednesday, March 29th before facing the Mavericks on Friday, March 31st.
