DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 4, 2013) – Senior Chaz Morrish (Douglaston, N.Y. / St. Mary's) poured in 16 points, including going 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, to lead the Mercy College men's basketball team against Nyack College on Wednesday night.
The Warriors left with a 76-64 victory to improve to 3-4 this season, while the Mavericks drop to 0-6.
Morrish started things off with the first basket of the game and added a go-ahead three-pointer five minutes into the game as senior Olajide Keshinro (Brooklyn, N.Y. / SUNY Cobleskill) crashed the boards for five rebounds over that span to put Mercy ahead, 8-7.
Nyack scored eight straight points to regain the lead and, after Mercy cut the deficit back to three on a trey from sophomore Daniel Pierrot (New York, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) with 9:42 left in the half, the Warriors rattled off another 10 straight points to take a commanding 13-point lead. The Mavericks trimmed the margin back to single digits on another three by Pierrot just before halftime, when they trailed 34-26.
The Warriors extended their lead early in the second half, coming out of the break with a 12-2 run over the first five minutes to go up by 18. Mercy could not claw back within single digits and Nyack took the 76-64 victory.
Morrish led the team with his 16 points, four three-pointers and six assists, while Pierrot finished with a career-high 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting (2-of-4 beyond the arc) and sophomore Nate Stitchell (Coventry, R.I. / Coventry) registered 10 along with five assists. Keshinro and senior Kirk Bailey (Freeport, N.Y. / St. Mary's) each brought down 10 rebounds, with Keshinro adding three blocks in just 23 minutes of action.
Head Coach Adam Parmenter and the Mavericks will host Wilmington (Del.) University (3-6) on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m.
