The Mavericks maintained a 61-60 edge with 4:03 on the clock after an Amir Atkins (Alexandria, Va./Hagerstown CC) layup, but Roberts Wesleyan would not go away and answered with four straight to take the lead back at 64-61 at the 2:50 mark. Mercy got within two, 66-64, with 42 seconds left after a Hickey layup, but Dwayne Roberts scored a basket on the other end to increase the lead back to four, 68-64, with 31 seconds left. After an offensive foul on the next Mavericks possession, Zack Panebianco went 1-of-2 from the foul line after drawing a foul to make it a five-point game, 69-64.
