DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 30, 2013) - The Mercy College men's lacrosse team welcomed in No. 5 LIU Post for an East Coast Conference battle on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers defeated the Mavericks, 14-6 to improve to 7-1 and 3-0 in the league. With the loss, the Mavericks slipped to 7-2 and 1-1 in the ECC.
Over the first five minutes of the game, Mercy netted three goals to take a 3-0 lead. Freshman Kevin Drane (Port Jefferson, N.Y.)'s goal was bookended by a pair from senior midfielder Mike Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.).
LIU Post was able to find the trio of equalizers to head into the second quarter knotted at 3-3.
The next period was all Pioneers as the guests scored four markers to take a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Mercy got back to their clutch scoring from the first quarter, when in the third, the Mavericks outscored the Pioneers, 3-1. Freshman Kyle Stockton (Medford, N.Y.), sophomore Jesse Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Marzocca found the back of the cage to cut their team's deficit to 8-6.
However, the Pioneers' attack wouldn't be done for the game as it scored six additional goals in the fourth quarter.
Between the pipes for Mercy, freshman A.J. Pellati (West Islip, N.Y.) made 11 saves.
For the Pioneers, Matty Beccaris and Ryan Slane had four goals each, while Chris Ruhlig had three. Goalkeeper Tim Bradley had five saves.
Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday, April 6 when they host NYIT at 1:00 p.m.
