Preseason Offensive Player of the Year
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College standout Michael Frimpong-Manso (Accra, Ghana) has been named East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Soccer Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and the Mavericks were selected to finish fifth in the preseason poll voted on by the league's head coaches.
Frimpong-Manso, a senior forward, started in 15 contests for the Mavericks last season and led the league with 1.47 points per game. He finished the season with nine goals and four assists for a total of 22 points. Frimpong-Manso earned a spot on the All-ECC First Team and the Daktronics All-Northeast Region Second Team.
As a team, the Mavericks finished fourth in the ECC regular season standings last season, posting a 4-4-1 league mark and a 7-7-3 overall record. They earned a spot in the ECC Tournament, falling to eventual champion and this year's preseason favorite Dowling. Second year head coach Nick Bell returns nine letterwinners from that squad, including seven starters.
Mercy will open up the 2008 season at a tournament hosted by West Chester University on August 30-31. The Mavericks' home opener will be on Sunday, September 14, versus Lock Haven at 2:00 p.m.
