Mercy College Softball Drops ECC Doubleheader to Concordia

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College softball team was defeated in both ends of an East Coast Conference (ECC) doubleheader by Concordia by a score of 6-3 in game one and 8-7 (eight innings) in game two.

In game one Concordia (12-16, 5-11 ECC) struck first in the second inning for three runs. Senior Kelly Moran (Fishkill, NY) hit a two-run single and then freshman Ashley Corriss (Sayville, NY) followed with an RBI single down the right field line.

The Mavericks (16-17, 5-12) got one run back when sophomore Kim Curry (Bristol, CT) was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded.

The Clippers scored three more times in the third inning, capitalizing on two Mercy miscues. Freshman Victoria Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, NY) capped off the rally with an RBI single to put the Clippers up 6-1.

The Mavericks scored twice in the seventh on RBI singles by junior Brittney Stockert (Hawthorne, NY) and sophomore Krissy Lacik (Edison, NJ). But that's as close as they would get as Concordia took game one.

Curry and sophomore Chelsea Methot (Bristol, CT) each had two hits.

The Clippers scored twice more in the second and added a run in the third to build a 7-0 lead.

The Mavericks got the bats going in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring four times. Curry laced a two-run double and then Lacik followed with an RBI single. Sophomore Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) capped off the inning with a run-scoring double to trail 7-4.

In the bottom of the seventh the Mavericks rallied to score three times to tie the game at seven. Stockert doubled with the bases loaded to bring home two runs and then sophomore Stephanie Owsiany (Edison, NJ) delivered the game tying hit through the left side.

In extra innings Rosella came through for Concordia with the game-winning RBI single.
