    The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its Division II Softball Awards and All-ECAC selections for the 2017 season. Junior Morgan Lloyd (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) has been named First Team All-ECAC, while junior Skania Lemus (Chula Vista, Calif./Southwestern CC) and freshman Kendall Meeks (Guysville, Ohio/Alexander) were tabbed All- ECAC Honorable Mention as announced by the organization on Thursday.

    Mercy College softball junior Morgan Lloyd (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) has been named to the 2017 Division II Conference Commissioner Association (CCA) All-East Region First Team, while juniors Skania Lemus (Chula Vista, Calif./Southwestern CC) and Cassidy Wootten (Ardsley, N.Y./Monroe College) and freshman Destini Bullock (San Diego, Calif./Helix) were tabbed to the Second Team.

    Despite a home run in game two from junior Skania Lemus (Chula Vista, Calif./Southwestern CC), the No. 5 seeded Mercy College softball team dropped a 5-0 decision to Adelphi University and a 12-3 decision to Wilmington University to conclude their season in the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon.

    Powered by a complete-game four-hitter from sophomore McKaily Cusumano (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) and an RBI from junior Skania Lemus (Chula Vista, Calif./Southwestern CC), the No. 5 seeded Mercy College softball team recorded its first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament with a 3-1 victory over No. 4 seeded University of New Haven on Thursday afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field.

    The Mercy College softball team will make an appearance in the 2017 NCAA Division II Softball Championship for the first time in program history after earning the first-ever ECC Championship on Sunday afternoon. Four teams will participate at each of the 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments, held May 11-13. The Mercy College softball team earned the No. 5 seed in the East Region, and will play No. 4 seed University of New Haven at 2:30 p.m. at Adelphi University in the four-team East 1 Regional featuring Adelphi (No. 1) and Wilmington (No. 8) beginning on Thursday.

    Mercy College softball junior Morgan Lloyd (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) was named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Softball Co-Player of the Year, while Head Coach Mike Fazio was selected Coach of the Year. A school-record seven Mavericks were tabbed to the Softball All-Conference teams as announced by the conference office earlier today with junior Skania Lemus (Chula Vista, Calif. / Southwestern CC), senior Julie Gross (Port Monmouth, N.J. / Middletown North), junior Cassidy Wootten Ardsley, N.Y. / Monroe College), Lloyd, freshman Kendall Meeks (Guysville, Ohio . Alexander) and freshman Destini Bullock (San Diego, Calif. / Helix) all named to the First Team. Sophomore McKaily Cusumano (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe) was named to the Second Team.

Lloyd is one of just 11 student-athletes named to the District 1 NCAA Division II Team.

    The Mercy College softball team will host the ECC Softball Championship on May 4-7 after earning the top seed following a season in which they finished with an 18-6 record in ECC play. The Mavericks opponent in the opening round of the tournament is No. 4 seed, LIU Post. The two teams will play on Thursday afternoon at Smith Field. The double-elimination tournament will get under way on Thursday, May 4 and will run through Sunday, May 7. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.
