Mercy College Cross Country Releases 2008 Schedule

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College Head Coach Dr. Darryl Bullock announced the 2008 men's and women's cross country schedule on Monday. The Mavericks will participate in eight events this year, including the Iona College Meet of Champions.
"This year's schedule affords us the opportunity to race top regional and national competition each week," said Bullock. "You don't get better unless you are challenged."
The challenges will get underway at the College of St. Rose Joust on September 6, before taking on some of the best competition in the country in Iona's Meet of Champions at the fabled Van Cortland Park on September 20. The host Gaels finished second in the nation among NCAA Division I teams last year.
The competition will remain stiff as the Mavericks travel to the Connecticut College Invitational on September 27, a meet that will feature a number of regional powerhouses. The teams will return to Van Cortland Park for the Lehman Invitational on October 5 and travel back to the Capital Region for the Albany Invitational on October 18.
The East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships move to a new venue at Sunken Meadow State Park, a challenging course which features the famed "Cardiac Hill", on October 25.
"We have talent and experience coming into the new season on the men's side," said Bullock. "We're looking to be in the upper tier of a conference that is getting real competitive. Our women, led by Katelyn Klobus (Averill Park, NY), will surprise folks."
The Mavericks will then close out the season at the NCAA Division II Regionals at Boston's Franklin Park on November 9 and the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortland Park on November 22.
"In order for us to meet our expectations, we need to be passionate about our summer program, smart about rest and nutritional issues, and focused upon believing in each other as we achieve the success we seek," Bullock said.
