Mercy College Women's Basketball Brings Jasmine Williams Aboard for 2008-09
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College head women's basketball coach Ashlee Kelly announced that Jasmine Williams (Stratford, CT) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the College and join the Mavericks beginning with the 2008-09 campaign.
"Jasmine will be a great addition to the Mercy women's basketball program," Kelly said. "She has great athleticism and a strong knowledge of the game, which are two aspects that make a good player."
Williams was a three-sport standout at Greens Farms Academy, playing four years of basketball and softball, and three years of volleyball. Williams excelled at all three sports, but left her mark as a basketball star. She is the only female at Greens Farms Academy to ever score more than 1,000 points (1,110 points) and helped the team gain its first ever berth in 2007 into the New England Tournament in which the Lady Dragons finished third.
A 5-foot-6 forward, Williams averaged 16.5 points per game and 10.1 rebounds over the course of her four years at Greens Farms Academy. She was named her team's most valuable player, and was a Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) All-Star all four years. Williams has also been named to the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class C All-Star Team four times.
In her high school career she collected 765 rebounds and led her team in scoring and rebounding three times. During Williams' senior year, she was among the top 10 in scoring in Fairfield County and helped the Lady Dragons to their best record (12-9) in school history. Over the last three years she has also competed on the CT Future Stars AAU Basketball team.
She also won awards in volleyball for Most Improved Player (2004), FAA Honorable Mention (2005), and was named the team's Most Valuable Player as team captain in 2006. In softball, she was named an FAA All-Star three times as a shortstop, won the Coach's Award twice, and as team captain in 2007 was named the Most Valuable Player.
