DOBBS FERRY, NY -  The Mercy College women's basketball team made a strong second half comeback against visiting Dowling College in East Coast Conference (ECC) play on Wednesday, but the Mavericks fell short 86-76.

Mercy College (6-14, 3-8 ECC) got a career-high 24 points from sophomore Ashley Borofsky (Southington, CT) and another career-high 21 points from freshman Aimee Levine (Glendale, NY). Borofsky connected on 9-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. Levine went 9-for-15 from the floor, hitting her only three-point attempt. Freshman Jasmine Williams (Stratford, CT) also added career-highs of 10 points and a nine rebounds.

Dowling (15-5, 9-2 ECC) pulled out to a 13-4 lead on a layup from Simona Bartkova (Greve, Denmark) and extended the margin to 13 at 25-12 on a three-pointer from LaShera Smith (Uniondale, NY) at the 11:11 mark of the first half.

The Mavericks scored the next four points, closing the gap to 25-16 on a layup from Williams, but the Golden Lions came right back and would build the lead back to 13 at 31-18.  Mercy closed to within eight at 33-25 on a jumper by Levine, but Dowling closed out the first frame with an 11-0 run to take a 44-25 advantage into the break.

The Golden Lions stretched the margin to as many as 24 points on three occasions, the last a 60-38 lead with 13:01 to go before the Mavericks began to chip away. They put together a furious 18-7 run, getting a trio of three-pointers from Borofsky and six points from Levine to slash the deficit to 67-56 at the 7:23 mark.

Mercy was able to cut it to seven at 81-74 on another Levine jumper with 39 seconds remaining, but time would run out on the rally as the Golden Lions held on from there.

Molly Tubridy (Broad Channel, NY) registered a double-double for Dowling with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Christie Marrone (Brooklyn, NY) added 14 points and Bartkova finished with 13.

The Mavericks will look to bounce back on Saturday, February 7, when they travel to C.W. Post for another ECC contest.
