Knights Defeat Mercy College Women's Basketball 78-66 in ECC Action
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's
basketball team was defeated by East Coast Conference (ECC)
opponent Queens College by a score of 78-66 on Wednesday.
Freshman guard Aimee Levine (Flushing, NY) led the
way for the Mavericks with 20 points. Sophomore guard
Ashley Borofsky (Southington, CT) contributed with
10 points and three trifectas. Sophomore forward Delmara
Reece (Yonkers, NY) added seven points and 10
rebounds.
The Mavericks (7-15, 4-9 ECC) took an early 10-9 lead after a
jumper by Reece. The Blue & White increased that lead to four
when senior guard Christina Baxter (Greenwood Lake,
NY) drained a three-pointer with 8:47 remaining in the
first half.
The Knights (17-5, 11-2 ECC) responded with a 14-1 run which
included three-pointers by sophomore guards Amanda Bartlett
(Mesa, AZ) and Christine Harnischfeger (Woodside,
NY) to take a 30-18 lead with 3:49 remaining.
After cutting the deficit to nine, the Knights turned on the heat
with a 14-4 run capped off by another three-pointer by Bartlett.
The Mavericks trailed 44-25 going into the break.
Mercy College began the second half with a three-pointer by Levine
which started a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to nine.
The Blue & White got within four points on the strength of an
8-0 run with 4:22 remaining in the game. The Knights, however,
scored the next six points to go up by 11 with under two minutes to
play.
Bartlett scored 29 points for the Knights on 10-of-14 shooting.
Harnischfeger added 18 points.
The Mavericks will be back in action when they travel to play St.
Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, February 14 at 1 p.m.
