DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2013) - On Wednesday afternoon, the Mercy College women's lacrosse team took on East Coast Conference-rival Dowling College and fell to the Golden Lions, 15-7 at Mavericks Field. With the win, the Golden Lions improved to 9-2 and 3-1 in the league, while the Mavericks slipped to 6-5 and 2-3 in the ECC.
Mercy scored first when junior Kelsey Bub (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) received a feed from senior Kelsey Sullivan (Mastic, N.Y.) and popped it past the Dowling goalkeeper. Dowling found the equalizer three minutes later, before the Mavericks took the lead back at 2-1. With 26:22 left in the first half, sophomore Michelle Tiernan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored Mercy's second marker of the contest.
The Golden Lions then went on an 8-0 run, which spanned 17 minutes. Dowling took a commanding 9-2 lead.
Bub scored with 4:42 before halftime to cut the Mavericks' deficit to 9-3.
After the intermission, the game followed the same pattern as the first half as the Golden Lions scored in bunches. Mercy scored with five minutes gone by in the second, but then Dowling compiled four straight goals.
Dowling would go on to close out the game, 15-7.
In all for Dowling, Nicole Moran had three goals and three assists, while Jackie Andersen and Kelly Cefalu notched a goal and three assists each. Between the pipes, Tina Fey had 10 saves.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday when they host Assumption College at 3:00 p.m.
