The Mavericks are now 12-5 overall and 5-3 in the ECC. The Pioneers rise to 14-3 overall and 7-1 in the ECC.
The Mavericks would be the first to score in the contest, as Davidson was able to open up the game at 28:29, scoring off of a pass from sophomore Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead). Honey Roche scored the first goal for the Pioneers in the 25th minute. Mercy was able to answer back just two minutes later, when Isnardi had a successful free position shot, allowing Mercy to hold a 2-1 lead. The Pioneers were then able to score five unanswered goals before the half, increasing their lead to 6-2 entering halftime.
In the second half, the Mavericks came out aggressive and attacked the cage, but couldn't convert on any of the shots taken. Mercy was able to earn four draw controls and take nine shots in the second half.
For the Mavericks, senior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y./Lock Haven Univ.) caused two turnovers, grabbed two ground balls and had two draw controls. Isnardi added three draw controls and one caused turnover in the contest. Freshman Talia Stagnitta (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) had one caused turnover, one draw control, and one ground ball. Junior Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) clocked 47:52 in net for Mercy, making five saves. Junior Shianne Judson (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) played 12:08 in the cage for the Mavericks.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks return to action on Thursday, May, 5th against an opponent to be determined at a time to be announced in their first-ever appearance in the ECC Championships.
