Mavericks Drop Season Opener to Nyack, 3-0

DOBBS FERRY, NY – The Mercy College
women’s soccer team was defeated in its season opener by
Nyack College on Wednesday, by a score of 3-0.
The Mavericks played a strong defensive game in the first half,
holding the Warriors to only seven shots. Neither team scored in
the first period.
However, the Warriors got on the board in the 48th minute with a
goal by Chauntel Veilleux. Kristen Naylor led Veilleux down the
middle for the score. In the 62nd minute, Veilleux struck again to
put Nyack up 2-0.
Shortly after in the 66th minute, Nyack finished off the scoring
for the day with a goal from Agnes Hitimana. Veilleux notched the
assist for her fifth point of the day.
The Mavericks got strong defensive efforts from junior
Casey Kondelka (Bloomingburg, NY) and senior
Jessica Fabian (Whitehall, PA).
Mercy’s sophomore goalkeeper Catherine Kowalski
(Melville, NY) notched eight saves.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Saturday when they travel
to Dominican. Mercy will return home on Tuesday, September 9 to
face Bloomfield at 3:30 p.m.
