Barrera had a strong month of January in helping lead the Mavericks to a 7-1 record during the month. The freshman has helped lead the Mavericks to their best start since the 1985-86 season and first regional ranking from D2SIDA in program history. The forward ranked second on the team with 8.5 points per game and averaged a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game during the month. The one-time ECC Honor Roll recipient also shot a team-best 54.8 percent from the floor in 19.9 minutes per game. Barrera opened the month with eight points in the win at Alliance on January 2nd. The freshman then had three points and six rebounds in the victory over Roberts Wesleyan on January 6th. Barrera scored a then career-high 12 points in the victory over Bloomfield on January 6th. The forward nearly recorded her first double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds in the win over Molloy on January 18th. Barrera then recorded seven points and eight rebounds in the win over Queens on January 21st. The freshman had a career-high and game-high 14 points and 11 rebounds on 7-of-8 shooting in the win over Staten Island on January 25th. The forward ended the month with 11 points at UDC on January 28th.
