DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Mercy College Volleyball team lost 3-0 (13-25, 25-27, 22-25) to NYIT on their home court on Thursday night, despite a late scoring effort in sets two and three of the East Coast Conference match.

She also led the team in service-aces with two. Hamilton tallied her season-high attack percentage at Kutztown (Sept. 11) with a. 469. Hamilton currently leads the Mavericks in both attack categories with 138 kills this season, 3.07 kills per game, and an average attack percentage of .270.

Rookie setter Rebecca Lynch (Oceanside, N.Y.) had a team-high 18 assists for the contest, while senior outside hitter Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) had a team-high 17 digs. Bruzzone also posted nine kills.

In the first set, NYIT got out to an early lead and led 9-4 before went on a run and tied the set at 12. After a Mercy College called time out, the Bears capitalized on two-straight Maverick errors to turn the momentum of the game on their side. NYIT went on a 13-1 point scoring run to win the set 25-13. NYIT sophomore Emily Syers (East Meadow, N.Y.) had six assists in the run.

Mercy College came back in the second set ready to play as the score was virtually tied the entire game. Mid-game, NYIT's Tugce Sirdas (Istanbul, Turkey) scored three-straight service aces to take a 15-11 lead over the Mavericks. Hamilton stopped the run with an explosive kill set up by senior Ashley Zufelt (Farmington, N.M.). Mercy College was able to score once more before NYIT went on another scoring run to take a 22-13 lead. With kills from Bruzzone, Hamilton (3) and Lynch, in addition to NYIT errors, the Mavericks jumped back into the game to close the gap on the Bears, to one point. A kill by Bridgette Pennelle (Hawthorne, N.Y.) would tie the game at 23-23. Trading points back and forth, the Bears finally took the set off two Mercy errors, 27-25.

The third set went by much of the way of the second, with the two conference foes tied neck-in-neck with no more than two points making up the difference. In the final serves of the set, NYIT won off a Mercy College error and kill from Ali Falbo (Costa Mesa, Calif.)

Up next, the Mavericks will look to rebound from their loss with a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 3 at West Chester University in West Chester, Pa.
