Mavericks Volleyball Loses 3-0 To Queens Knights

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Mercy College women's volleyball team lost 3-0 at the hands of the visiting Queens College Knights (20-25, 23-25, 20-25) in East Coast Conference action on Tuesday night in Mercy College gymnasium. With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 3-18 on the season and 0-6 in the ECC. Queens advances to 3-14 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Senior Ashley Zufelt (Farmington, N.M.) led the team overall with nine digs and two service aces in the three-game set. She also tallied four kills.

Junior Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) led the Mavericks in kills with nine. She also had three blocks (two solo efforts, one assist) had three digs and one service ace. Freshman Rebecca Lynch (Oceanside, N.Y.) tallied 23 assists for a season total of 367.

In the first set, Queens went on a 13-point run before the Mavericks cut the momentum and rallied back to come within four points, 24-20. The second set was close the whole way until the Knights broke free at the end and scored on a kill and a Mercy College attack error to seal the deal, 25-23.

Next up, the Mercy College volleyball team will be back in action on their home court on Thursday, Oct. 15 for a league match up against Molloy College. First serve begins at 7 p.m. in Mercy College gymnasium. The match will be shown via live video on www.MercyAthletics.com.
