Mercy College Volleyball Loses To
Molloy, 3-1
Diane Bruzzone has 18 digs in
non-conference loss.
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.
– The Mercy College women's volleyball team
lost 3-1 (23-25, 18-25, 25-21, 11-25) to the Molloy Lions, despite
an inspired performance in the third set. With the loss, the
Mavericks fall to 3-19 on the season and 0-6 in East Coast
Conference action. The Molloy Lions advance to 8-15 overall and 3-5
in the league.
Junior Shedeiky Hamilton
(Yallahs, Jamaica) and senior Sasha Atkins (Bronx,
N.Y.) led the team's attack with 11 and 10 kills
respectively. Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador)
kept the Mavericks in the game with 18 digs. Freshman
Rebecca Lynch (Oceanside, N.Y.) tallied 33
assists. Bruzzone also had the lone service ace in the four-set
match.
The first set was a close one as both
the Lions and the Mavericks went back and forth. With the score
tied 23-23, Molloy finished off the set with a kill and an attack
error to take a 1-0 lead. The third set was much like the first, as
the two teams traded point-for-point. At the 17-17 tie, Mercy
College pulled away on a 4-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. Mercy scored
three more points to Molloy's one before the Lions rallied
back with a 3-0 run of their own to be down just three points to
the Mavericks. An attack error from the Lions gave Mercy College
the set-point.
The Mavericks are back in action on
Tuesday, Oct. 20 for their Dig Pink game against Dowling. First
serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Mercy College Gym. Donations
of $2 will be taken at the door to raise money for the Side-Out
Foundation.
