Bridgeport Slips Past Mercy Soccer,

Mavericks fire 15 shots at the
5-0 Purple Knights.
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.
– Despite a 15-shot effort by the Mercy College
men's soccer team, the Mavericks had the Bridgeport Purple
Knights slip by them with a one-goal victory in East Coast
Conference play on Tuesday.
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to
3-8-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the ECC. The Purple Knights advance to
9-2-3, and 5-0 in the league.
The contest was scoreless until the
86th minute when Bridgeport broke the tie with a goal by Curt
Sutherland (Branford, Conn.). Sutherland's shot was aided by
a one-time pass from Gilbert Bayonne (Amityville, N.Y.)
Mercy College dominated play for most
of the game, firing off 15 shots at Bridgeport's Milos
Suljagic (Belgrade, Serbia). Suljagic blanked seven of the 15
keeping the Mavericks scoreless.
Maverick Gianfranco Bastone
(Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led Mercy College with six shots,
three on goal. Raldino Powell (Yonkers, N.Y.) had
three.
The Mercy College men's soccer
team will look to rebound off the loss on Thursday when they host
the Philadelphia University Rams on Thursday at 3 p.m., on Mercy
College Field.
