Phillips Tallies Seven Saves In First Start In Goal Against No. 20 Bridgeport

 
   

The Purple Knights won 8-0 over the Mavericks women's soccer team.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Without starter Andrea Nash (Somers, N.Y.), the Mercy College women's soccer team lost 8-0 to the NSCAA/adidas No. 20 Bridgeport Purple Knights in East Coast Conference play on Wednesday.

The Mavericks started two newcomers, freshman Kassandra Phillips (Marcellus, N.Y.) and senior Ashley Zufelt (Farmington, N.M.) to mix up the line up against this nationally ranked competitor.

Starting in goal for the Mavericks, Phillips made seven saves and allowed eight goals.

With the loss, Mercy College falls to 3-7-0 on the season and 1-4-0 in the East Coast Conference. The Purple Knights advance to 12-1-3 overall and 5-1 in the ECC.

Zufelt fired two shots. Junior Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y.) also had two shots.

Up next, the Mavericks travel to C.W. Post for a Saturday contest against the Pioneers. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
