Mavericks Lose Close Match to Philadelphia In Non-Conference Action

Mercy College men's soccer holds Rams scoreless until 75th minute.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Mercy College men's soccer team held its opponent to a scoreless contest until the 75th minute for the second-straight game this week as the Mavericks lose 1-0 to the Philadelphia University Rams on Thursday night.

Sophomore Martin Walsh (Dublin, Ireland) had six saves in goal for the Mavericks as Mercy College falls to 3-9-0 on the season. The Philadelphia University Rams advance to 11-4 overall.

Philadelphia's Ryan Purnell scored the lone goal of the contest with a header in front of the net from Kyle Altenau.

Maverick graduate student Daniel Cardeno (Tarrytown, N.Y.) led Mercy College with three shots, two on goal.

Philadelphia led Mercy College in shots with 15. The Mavericks totaled 11.

Next up, the Mavericks will travel to C.W. Post for a Saturday match up against the Pioneers. Game time is set for noon on Oct. 24.
