Mercy Men's Soccer Edged By Pioneers

BROOKEVILLE, N.Y. -- The Mercy College
men's soccer team lost 4-1 to the C.W. Post Pioneers on Saturday in
East Coast Conference play. Sophomore Ben Latchford
(Solihull, England) scored the Mavericks lone goal off a
penalty kick.
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to
3-10 on the season and 1-5 in E.C.C. action. The Pioneers advance
to 9-5-1 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
The Pioneers scored first in the third
minute of play.
In the 19th minute, the Mavericks
capitlized off a Pioneer foul as Latchford scored a penalty kick
goal, going one-on-one on C.W. Post goalkeeper Shane Flanagan.
C.W. Post answered back in the 24th
minute as Phillip Svensson's shot just tipped over Maverick
goalkeeper Martin Walsh's (Dublin, Ireland)
fingers into the net to give the Pioneers a 2-1 advantage.
The Pioneers scored once more in the
period to give C.W. Post the two goal advantage going into
halftime.
The Mavericks only got off three shots
in the second period and the Pioneers scored once more to seal the
deal on the C.W. Post win.
The Mavericks will be looking to
rebound off their loss on Wednesday, Oct. 28 with a home contest
against Queens College. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Mercy
College Field.
