Wilmington University scored three goals in each half to post a 6-2
decision over host Mercy College in non-conference women's soccer
action on Monday.
The Mavericks (0-2-0) got on the board first when senior
Ann Meenagh (Dublin, Ireland) scored unassisted
from the right side seven minutes into the contest.
The Wildcats (1-0-0) evened the score at 1-1 at the 14:38 mark
on a header by Brittany Rhodes (Baltimore, MD) off
a cross from Samantha Simpson (Middletown, DE).
Ashli Gerlach (Red Lion, PA) then gave Wilmington
a 2-1 lead at 20:15, and Anna Perrino (Monroeville,
NJ) made it 3-1 at the 42-minute mark.
Wilmington got a pair of tallies from Stallone early in the
second frame before junior Stephanie Bann (New Cumberland,
PA) cut the deficit to 5-2 with her first goal of the
season for Mercy. Klaudia Furman (Baltimore,
MD) then added an insurance goal for the Wildcats in the
81st minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore,
NY) stopped 15 shots for the Mavericks.
Mercy will return to action on Wednesday, September 2, at home
versus Post University with a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
