Mercy Volleyball Falls To Nyack In
Five Games
Mavericks fall 15-9 in final
game.
NYACK, N.Y.
– The Mercy College volleyball team fell to the
Nyack Warriors in five games (25-15, 21-25, 17-25, 25-16, 9-15) on
Tuesday night at the Bowman Center. With the loss, the Mavericks
went 1-1 in their men's soccer-volleyball double header at
Nyack College.
Mercy volleyball's record falls
to 0-6 on the season, while Nyack posted its first win of the
season and is 1-2.
The Mavericks took the first game
25-15, as they jumped ahead in the early frames and never looked
back as Nyack trailed the entire game. The Warriors took the next
two to take a one-game lead over Mercy with close scores of 25-21
and 25-17. Mercy tied it up at 2-2 in the next game, and it looked
as if the Mavericks would seal the deal on a win jumping out to a
5-2 lead in the final set. The Warriors came back and led 13-6
before finishing with a score of 15-9.
Maverick senior Diana Bruzzone
(Guayaquil, Ecuador) led the way for Mercy with an overall
performance of nine kills, 13 digs and three assists. Junior
Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) led the
offense with 14 kills.
Sophomore Bridgette Pennelle
(Hawthorne, N.Y.) tallied 28 assists in the five games.
Senior Ashley Zufelt
(Farmington, N.M.) also had a well-rounded match with 10
digs and nine kills.
In the first game, Mercy had a kill
percentage of .321 with 11 kills. In the fourth, the Mavericks
tallied 10 kills for a percentage of .143.
Mercy volleyball is back in action on
Saturday, Sept. 19 for a double-header at Southern Connecticut
State in New Haven, Conn. The Mavericks will start off with a match
against host school SCSU at noon, followed by a 2 p.m. match up
against Georgian Court.
