Ozer Nets Season First Goal In
Mercy's 4-2 Loss At Lock Haven
Mavericks men's soccer
closes week 1-1.
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Mercy College
men's soccer team lost 4-2 in a non-conference match up
against Lock Haven on Friday afternoon at Huber Jack Stadium. With
the loss, the Mavericks go 1-1 on the week and 2-3 overall. The
Bald Eagles advance to 3-3-1 on the season.
Maverick junior Ekram Ozer, a forward from
Istanbul, Turkey, netted his season's first goal to tie the
game at 1-1 in the 12th minute of play. Mercy's sophomore
keeper and ECC Defensive Player of the Week Martin
Walsh (Dublin, Ireland), also had a season-best day, with
a season-high six saves.
The Bald Eagles scored first, in the fourth minute of play, as
Adam Scheibeler (Montoursville, Pa.) put the pressure on Mercy and
give Lock Haven the early lead. Mercy came right back at Lock Haven
as Ozer answered back in the 12th minute to tie the score at 1-1.
Lock Haven came back with a goal two minutes later, as William
Pasukinis (Benton, Pa./Benton) took matters into his own hands with
a bicycle kick that landed the ball in the top corner of
Walsh's goal. Lock Haven went into the half with a 2-1
advantage.
Coming back from the break, the Bald Eagles scored twice more to
take a 4-1 lead over Mercy.
The Mavericks did not back down. In the 87th minute of play,
midfielder Vjekoslav Lubric (Pleasantville, N.Y.)
shot the ball from 14 yards out to the far upper corner of rookie
goalkeeper Chad Badorf's (Lancaster, Pa.) goal to make it
4-2.
However, it was too little, too late as time expired on the
Maverick's late game rush.
The Mercy men's soccer team will
have a long break before they are back in action next Sunday, Sept.
27 for the Maverick's first league game against NYIT. The
Mavericks will be playing in Old Westbury, N.Y. with a noon start.
