Mavericks Soccer Loses 8-2 At
Dowling

scores season-first goal in conference match up.
OAKDALE, N.Y. –
The Mercy College women's soccer team could not overcome a
three-goal Dowling lead in the first half as the Mavericks lost 8-2
in their first conference game of the season on Saturday in
Oakdale. With the loss the Mavericks fall to 1-4 on the season,
while the Golden Lions advance to 5-2.
Dowling's Alexis Parotta scored
twice in the first 30 minutes of play to put the Golden Lions up
2-0. Dowling's scored again with 5:28 left in the half to
cement a lofty three-goal lead to go into the half.
Coming out of the break, Dowling
netted their fourth goal to go up 4-0 before Mercy stirred alive
comeback chances with two unanswered goals of their own.
Maverick newcomer, and an addition
from the women's basketball team Delmara Reece
(Yonkers, N.Y.) netted her first goal of the season
unassisted and over the reach of the Dowling goalkeeper Kayla
Vitale.
Junior Andrea Nash (Somers,
N.Y.) teamed up with senior Casey Kondelka
(Bloomingburg, N.Y.) to cut the Dowling lead to two goals
as Kondelka fed Nash who finished into the right corner of the net
in the 55th minute.
Despite the two-goal run, the
Mavericks couldn't come back as Dowling scored four more to
end the score at 8-2. Goaltender Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore,
N.Y.) tallied 14 saves in the outing. Neither Golden Lions
goaltender tallied one.
The Mavericks will be looking to
bounce back from the Dowling game and get another notch in the win
column at Molloy on Saturday, Oct. 3. The ECC battle will begin at
1 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
