Mavericks Fall to Holy Family in Season Opener
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Mercy College men's
soccer team fell by a score of 4-1 to visiting Holy Family
University in its season and home opener on Wednesday afternoon.
Holy Family (1-1-0) built a 3-0 cushion in the first half.
Tim Dugan
(Philadelphia,
PA) got the first goal for the
Tigers 29:47 into the first half. Less than a minute later,
Seydou Ba (Mauritania) made it 2-0 and
Marc Fischer (Fairless Hills, PA) gave Holy Family
the 3-0 lead in the 43rd minute.
Mercy College (0-1-0) got one back when Marko Loncar
(Pleasantville,
NY) netted his first goal of the
season with only seven seconds left before halftime.
The Mavericks would pull no closer as Tim Weglicki
(Philadelphia,
PA) stretched the lead back to
three at 4-1 with a header off a cross from Ba in the 53rd minute
and put it away from there.
Mercy out-shot the Tigers by a 26-9 margin, but could not
capitalize and Holy Family goalkeeper Mark Ferretti
(Vorhees,
NJ) posted nine saves to thwart
the Mavericks' offense.
Mercy College will return to action on Friday, September 4, at
Stonehill with a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
