Eagles Clip Mercy Women's Soccer 2-1 in Double Overtime
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Rachel Shivers
(Vernon, CT) scored her second goal of the day with only
7:37 remaining in the second overtime to lift visiting Post
University to a 2-1 decision over Mercy College in non-conference
women's soccer on Wednesday.
Shivers tallied her first marker of the contest for Post (1-1-0)
in the 32nd minute to break a scoreless tie.
Mercy (0-3-0) struck back in the 44th minute as junior
Andrea Nash
(Somers,
N.Y.) collected her own rebound
and fired it inside the left post from six yards out to even the
game at 1-1.
The contest seemed destined to end in a deadlock as neither team
could find the back of the net in the second frame or the first
overtime. Shivers then ended the contest as she converted a
pass from Megan Hansen
(Newtown,
CT) for the decisive
strike.
Senior Samantha DeVore
(Norwich,
CT) made nine saves in her
goalkeeping debut for the Mavericks. Cassandre Michel
(Middleboro, MA) stopped three shots for the Eagles. Post
had a 22-12 advantage in shots.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Wednesday, September 9,
when they host SUNY Maritime at 1:30 p.m.
