First Road Win Escapes Mavericks Volleyball At Pace
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - On its
first road trip of the season, the Mercy College Mavericks
volleyball team was outscored 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-9) by the Pace
Setters on Tuesday night at the Goldstein Fitness Center. With the
loss, the Mavericks are 0-2 on the young season.
Senior Diana Bruzzone
(Guayaquil, Ecuador) was the Maverick's point leader with
a team-high of five kills. Sophomore Bridgette Pennelle
(Hawthorne, N.Y.) led the team with 11 assists. Senior
Ashley Zufelt (Farmington, N.M.) added four kills
and five digs to her season so far.
On the defensive end, senior
Sasha Atkins (Bronx, N.Y.) had a hand in three
duels at the net with two block assists and one solo block.
The Setters were led by
Victoria Pomilus (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and
Susana Verdugo-Del Real (El Centro, Calif.) with
10 kills each. Pompilus also added three blocks.
Mercy volleyball will be back in action this weekend, as the team
travels to Kutztown, Pa., for the Kutztown Challenge Tournament.
First serve for the Mavericks is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday,
Sept. 11 against the NYIT Bears. The Mavericks will have a double
header against Kutztown and Felician on Saturday.
