Mercy Women's Soccer Claims 2-1 Win over Nyack College
Box Score The Mercy College women's soccer team improved to 4-6 on
the season by beating Nyack College (3-9) in a Columbus Day matinee
by a 2-1 score.
Mercy held a 1-0 lead at the half, on a goal from freshman Shelby Martino (Portola Hills, Calif./El
Toro), who took a cross from senior Andrea
Nash (Katonah, N.Y./Somers).
In the second half, Nyack's Alisha Smith tied the score in
the 54th minute, with an assist from Amanda Carter.
Both teams had opportunities to add more goals, but it was Mercy
who was able to do so, as Stephanie Manta (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream
Central) took a pass from freshman Alison Mrowinski (Syracuse,
N.Y./Solvay) and cemented the game for Mercy. For
Manta, it was the first goal of her college career.
In goal, sophomore Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay
Shore) made six saves.
Mercy returns to action with another non-conference match on
Thursday afternoon, October 14, travelling to Bloomfield College
for a 2:00 p.m. start.
