Behind three goals from freshman Jackie Karras (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East), the Mercy College women's soccer team defeated Bloomfield College 3-1 on Thursday. With the win, Mercy has now won three straight games, and climbs to 5-6 on the season. Bloomfield drops to 2-9-1.

Karras scored the only goal of the first half when she converted a rebound in the 15th minute. In the 54th minute, Karras scored the eventual game-winner with an unassisted goal.

Bloomfield got its sole goal shortly thereafter, when Erika Len converted a breakaway opportunity at the 55:18 mark.

Karras recorded the hat trick with an insurance goal with just a few minutes to go in regulation, when classmate Shelby Martino (Portola Hills, Calif./El Toro) sent a cross into the box that Karras pounded home.

Karras now has four goals on the season.

In goal for the Mavericks, sophomore Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) made seven saves, including five in the first half.

Mercy looks to even its record on Saturday, October 16, when the Bears of NYIT travel to Dobbs Ferry for a noon kickoff.
