Mercy Field Hockey Drops Inaugural Home Game to Limestone College 1-0
Box Score It was an historic day for Mercy College on Friday as the
women's field hockey team hosted its first ever home game in a
contest against Limestone (S.C.) College, played in Purchase,
N.Y. Limestone held on to the 1-0 win, scoring the game's
lone goal with less than eight minutes to play.
This is the second meeting of the season for the teams, as Mercy
faced Limestone in the first ever field hockey game in school
history, a 5-0 loss, at Limestone on Sept. 4.
The Mavericks and Saints played to a scoreless first half, with
Mercy freshman goalkeeper Kristen Znaniecki
(Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue)
stopping four shots.
Znaniecki's seven total saves on the day were not enough, as
Limestone midfielder Sara Parker converted off a penalty corner
from the inside circle at the 62:07 mark, to make the score
1-0. The score would stand, and Mercy drops to 0-9 on the
season.
The next game for the Mavericks is on Oct. 24 against Slippery
Rock (Pa.) University.
