Mercy Men's Soccer Falls to NYIT in Overtime 2-1
Box Score The Mercy College men's soccer team could not hold onto an
early lead, and fell in overtime, 2-1, to visiting NYIT on Saturday
afternoon. With the win, NYIT is now 5-6-1 (2-3 in the ECC), and
Mercy falls to 4-6-2 (0-5 ECC).
The Mavericks got on the board first, in the 27th
minute. Mercy had been pushing the attack, and had earned a corner
kick. Junior Collin Legge (Schodack,
N.Y./HVCC) took the corner, and sent the ball into the
heart of the box. The ball landed at the feet of sophomore Alex
Cruz (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern), who slid the ball into
the net.
NYIT evened the score at the 55:20 mark, with a goal by Staffan
Alm. The score would stand through regulation time.
In overtime, NYIT's Maciek Serafin converted on a kick
from the right wing, to give his team the win.
Senior goalkeeper Pedro Velazquez-Diaz (Walden, N.Y./Newberry
College) had four saves on the afternoon for the
Mavericks.
On the day, Mercy out-shot NYIT 23-20.
Mercy travels to Lock Haven for their next game, on Oct. 20.
