The Mercy College men's soccer team could not hold onto an early lead, and fell in overtime, 2-1, to visiting NYIT on Saturday afternoon. With the win, NYIT is now 5-6-1 (2-3 in the ECC), and Mercy falls to 4-6-2 (0-5 ECC).

The Mavericks got on the board first, in the 27th minute. Mercy had been pushing the attack, and had earned a corner kick. Junior Collin Legge (Schodack, N.Y./HVCC) took the corner, and sent the ball into the heart of the box. The ball landed at the feet of sophomore Alex Cruz (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern), who slid the ball into the net.

NYIT evened the score at the 55:20 mark, with a goal by Staffan Alm.  The score would stand through regulation time.

In overtime, NYIT's Maciek Serafin converted on a kick from the right wing, to give his team the win.

Senior goalkeeper Pedro Velazquez-Diaz (Walden, N.Y./Newberry College) had four saves on the afternoon for the Mavericks.

On the day, Mercy out-shot NYIT 23-20.

Mercy travels to Lock Haven for their next game, on Oct. 20.
