Women's Soccer Runs Win Streak to Four Games with 2-0 Win over NYIT
Box Score With solid defensive play, the Mercy College women's
soccer team beat NYIT today by a score of 2-0, which brings the
Mavericks win streak to four straight games. The shutout
brings Mercy's record to 6-6 on the season, including 2-3 in
the East Coast Conference. NYIT drops to 6-8 overall, and 2-4
in the ECC. The game was the first game played on the Dobbs
Ferry campus this season for the team.
The first goal was deflected off an NYIT player, when junior Jackie Sabel (Pewaukee,
Wisc./Kickapoo (Mo.)) crossed the ball into the box.
The pass was intended for freshman Shelby Martino (Portola Hills, Calif./El
Toro), but struck the NYIT and past an unsuspecting
goalkeeper.
An insurance goal was added at the 51:20 mark, when junior Jamie Sabel (Pewaukee, Wisc./Kickapoo
(Mo.)) headed the ball off of a direct kick by
freshman Reid Coffey(Ballston, N.Y./Ballston
Spa). The tally was Sabel's second goal of
the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay
Shore) had four saves on the afternoon. NYIT keeper
Kathryn Miller made eight stops.
Mercy looks to make it five in a row when they travel to
Wilmington (Del.) on Oct. 21.
