With solid defensive play, the Mercy College women's soccer team beat NYIT today by a score of 2-0, which brings the Mavericks win streak to four straight games.  The shutout brings Mercy's record to 6-6 on the season, including 2-3 in the East Coast Conference.  NYIT drops to 6-8 overall, and 2-4 in the ECC.  The game was the first game played on the Dobbs Ferry campus this season for the team.

The first goal was deflected off an NYIT player, when junior Jackie Sabel (Pewaukee, Wisc./Kickapoo (Mo.)) crossed the ball into the box. The pass was intended for freshman Shelby Martino (Portola Hills, Calif./El Toro), but struck the NYIT and past an unsuspecting goalkeeper.

An insurance goal was added at the 51:20 mark, when junior Jamie Sabel (Pewaukee, Wisc./Kickapoo (Mo.)) headed the ball off of a direct kick by freshman Reid Coffey(Ballston, N.Y./Ballston Spa).  The tally was Sabel's second goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) had four saves on the afternoon. NYIT keeper Kathryn Miller made eight stops.

Mercy looks to make it five in a row when they travel to Wilmington (Del.) on Oct. 21.
