Mercy Women's Soccer Falls at Queens 1-0
Box Score The Mercy women's soccer team dropped a third consecutive
game by a 1-0 score, falling today at Queens College. Mercy falls
to 2-5 on the season, and 0-3 in the East Coast Conference. Queens,
meanwhile, ups its record to 6-5 overall, and 3-0 in the ECC.
QC scored the game's only goal with 5:16 to go in the
first half, when Laura D'Amore converted a rebound past
keeper Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay
Shore). The play began with a free kick for
Queens' Kirri Bolton, which DiLegge deflected. The ball then
knocked off the cross bar and right to D'Amore,
who found an open target.
Mercy had two good opportunities to tie the score, both coming
in the final 45 minutes. In the 62nd minute, freshman Reid
Coffey (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) sent a pass
from right in front of the Mavericks bench to classmate Shelby Martino (Portola Hills, Calif./El Toro)
in close, but the Knights dodged a bullet when Martino failed to
get a shot off. Ten minutes later, QC keeper Allison Breakey came
out to the top of the box to meet junior Jamie Sabel (Pewaukee, Wisc./Kickapoo
(Mo.)) and stuff her shot attempt.
The Mavericks return to non-conference play on Monday with a
4:00 p.m. trip to Georgian Court.
