Mercy Men's Soccer Dominates Lock Haven 4-1
Box Score The Mercy College men's soccer team jumped out to an early
lead and thoroughly dominated Lock Haven (Pa.) University 4-1
today. The Mavericks have now won two of the last three contests en
route to a 5-6-2 overall record. LHU is now 6-7-3.
In just the ninth minute of play, Mercy senior Raldino
Powell (Bronx, N.Y./Garvey Maceo (Jamaica)) crossed
the ball into the box, which was misplayed by a Lock Haven
defender. Sophomore Marcel
Jorge (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) took advantage, and
ripped a shot just inside the near post for the 1-0 lead.
At the 38:46 mark, Mercy struck again, this time on a corner
kick. Junior Collin
Legge (Schodack, N.Y./Maple Hill) took the corner, and
masterfully bent the ball directly in at the far post.

himself in a one-on-one situation with Zach Huber, the LHU keeper.
Powell avoided Huber, and tucked the ball in at the far post.
In the second half, Lock Haven scored its only goal of the match
on a corner kick. The ball was played in front of Mercy keeper
Pedro Velazquez-Diaz (Walden, N.Y./Newberry
College), where the ball ricocheted off a Mercy defender
and into the goal.
Senior Hugo Bernal (Guadalajara, Mexico/Irvington
(N.Y.)) scored the game's final goal at 68:25, when
he collected a rebound and knocked the ball in the goal.
Junior Martin Walsh (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste
Ide) got the start in goal for Mercy and earned the win.
Velazquez-Diaz made six saves, all in the second half.
The Mavericks return to action on Saturday, October 23, hosting
East Coast Conference foe CW Post at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the match,
