Mavericks Volleyball Falls to ECC Leading Bridgeport 3-0
Box Score The Mavericks dropped their match with the University of
Bridgeport Thursday night, by a score of 3-0. Set scores were
25-12, 25-12, and 25-11. Mercy is now 3-21, including 0-9 in
the East Coast Conference, while Bridgeport, the number one team in
the NCAA East Region, is 21-2, including 10-0 in the ECC to lead
the Conference.
The first set saw tight play to start, until Bridgeport went on
an 8-1 run, to bring the score to 12-4. The Purple Knights'
Yael Cohen held serve for five consecutive points, including two
service aces. Bridgeport would go on take the set 25-12.
In the second set, Mercy struck early, starting with a kill by
Nicole Pepe (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow), but the
2-0 score would be the Mavericks only lead of the set.
Bridgeport followed up with a 5-0 run to get back in the
game. Bridgeport won the second set 25-12.
The third set would see Mercy taking the early 2-0 lead again,
but Bridgeport was quick to get back in it and control play.
Carolina Lobato controlled the serve for eight straight Bridgeport
points. The Purple Knights won the third set 25-11, and earned the
victory on the night.
Leading Mercy was freshman Nicolette Gebhardt (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush), who
had ten kills and ten digs.
The next game is on Nov. 2, when the Mavericks travel to C.W.
