Men's Soccer Fights to 2-2 Overtime Tie with Philadelphia University
Box Score Raldino Powell and Ben Latchford each had a goal and an assist
for the Mercy College men's soccer team, but they were not
enough, as Mercy found a 2-2 overtime tie at Philadelphia
University on Friday afternoon. Mercy is 6-7-3 with one game
remaining in the regular season, while PhilaU is 11-5-2.
Powell (Bronx, N.Y./Garvey Maceo
(Jamaica)), a senior, scored the game's first
goal in just the seventh minute of the game, with assists going to
a pair of juniors: Bujar Lajqi (Bronx,
N.Y./Yorktown) and Latchford (Solihull, England/Sacred Heart
College). PhilaU responded at 41:36 with a goal from
Milos Racic, assisted by Ryan Purnell.
Early in the second half, Latchford tallied his first goal of
the season with assists to Marko Loncar (Pleasantville,
N.Y./Pleasantville) and Powell.
With the Rams pushing play late in the second half, a ball
deflected off a Mercy defender and into the goal for an own goal,
credited to PhilaU.
In the first overtime, Mercy had back-to-back corner kicks, but
could not capitalize. The second overtime was much more wide open,
with both teams trading scoring opportunities.
Earning just his second start of the season, junior keeper Martin Walsh (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste
Ide) made seven saves.
