Women's Soccer Falls to Molloy in Season Finale
Box Score With a chance at the postseason staring the Mercy College
women's soccer team in the face, the Mavericks lost a 5-0
match at Molloy College on Sunday afternoon. Mercy (7-9, 2-5 East
Coast Conference) had entered the game just one game behind the
Lions (6-9-1, 4-3 ECC) in the ECC standings, setting up a
winner-takes-all scenario.
Molloy began the game's scoring just 14:35 in, when
Natalie Meringolo took a feed from Nicole Valentine and scored.
Alyssa Faller and Valentine later scored first half goals for
Molloy, who will enter the ECC Championships as the fourth seed.
Dianna Geneva scored a pair of second half goals for the final
score.
For Mercy, Stephanie DiLegge (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore)
made two saves in goal, playing just into the second half.
Finishing the gamel was Christina Bocchio (Hicksville,
N.Y./Hicksville), who made three saves.
For the game, Molloy took more shots than Mercy, 17-5.
The Mavericks conclude the season in sixth place in the ECC. In
all, Mercy earned four more wins than a season ago.
