Mercy Women's Basketball Drops Overtime Game to Nyack 70-62
Mercy College dropped its second women's basketball game
in as many days, falling to Nyack College 70-62 in overtime, in the
2010 Dominican College Tip-Off Tournament.
In the first half, Mercy forced Nyack into 13 turnovers, and
built a 10-point lead at the break. Point guard Simone
Williams (Waldorf, Md./Lackey) had ten points for
Mercy, while grabbing seven rebounds. Ashley
Borofsky (Southington, Conn./Southington) added nine
points.
In the second half, the Mavericks extended the lead to as many
as 12 pionts early on, on a jumper by Simone Williams. Nyack hung
around, chipping at the lead. At the 3:42 mark, the Warriors took
the lead for the first time in the half on a basket by Victoria
Sweet.
Down by two with under two minutes to play, junior newcomer
Talia Beaulieu (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) hit a
jumper to knot the score at 58 point apiece, and send the game into
overtime.
The overtime session started with both teams trading baskets.
Beaulieu hit a jumper with 2:56 to play to keep the score level at
62-62. From there, the Mavericks would go cold, as Nyack went on an
8-0 run to win the game.
On the day, Borofsky scored 18 points, with Simone Williams
right behind with 17. Williams added eight rebounds and seven
assists. Beaulieu chipped in 12 points with five rebounds in a
losing effort.
Mercy returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Georgian Court
at 6:00 p.m.
