The first half was tight from the start. With the game knotted at six, a layup by Lawrence gave the sparked a 9-2 run by the Mavericks, giving them the 17-8 lead.  A steal by Nik Otovic ignited  Caldwell to a seven point run, to bring the score to 23-22, and the Cougars within one.  Baskets were exchanged the rest of the half, including Morrish knocking down three three-points, to have Mercy leading at the half, 38-36.

The second half began with the teams neck and neck.  A layup by Peter Diffley brought the Cougars within one point, and the score 50-49.  Mercy would score four straight to bring the lead to five, but Caldwell continued to press, and tied the score at 58.  The teams continued to exchange baskets.  A jumper by Kortney Parker (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) brought the score to 69-63, giving the Mavericks the six point lead.  Caldwell scored the next six to knot the score at 69.  Tight play on both ends saw the score tied again at 75, with 1:00 to play.  Following a timeout by Mercy, Garcia missed a layup and the ball was brought down the floor by Caldwell.  Anthony Gill hit a jumper with eight seconds on the clock, to give the Cougars the 77-75 score, and the win.
