Women's Basketball Wins Back-to-Back Games, Beats Felician 75-73
The Mercy College women's basketball team (2-2) concluded
a two-game New Jersey swing with a win at Felician College on
Thursday night, 75-73.
Mercy led by as many as seven with just under two minutes to
play in regulation, when first-year Maria Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by
the Sea) hit a layup to make the score 69-62. Spurred
by a pair of Mercy turnovers, Felician (0-1) went on a 6-0 run to
nip the lead to one with just 38 ticks remaining.
Junior guard Simone Williams (Waldorf,
Md./Lackey) and senior forward Ashley Borofsky (Southington,
Conn./Southington) each hit a pair of free throws to
build the lead back to five with just ten seconds to play. A Tierra
Cleaves three pointer with five seconds remaining cut the lead to
just two, but time would run out and Mercy would claim the win.
Mercy was led by junior Talia Beaulieu (Waldorf, Md./Stillman
College), who recorded her first double-double in blue
and white with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Borofsky tied for the
team lead with 17 points. Jasmine Williams (Stratford, Conn./Greens Farms
Academy) also recorded a double-double with 15 points
and 12 rebounds, while Nardulli was the fourth Maverick in double
digits in scoring with 12.
The Mavericks are set to host Dowling on Saturday, November 20,
in the home opener. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
