Second Half Woes Cost Men's Basketball in 86-61 Loss
In the third game of a four date home stand, the Mercy College
men's basketball team lost to visiting Southern New Hampshire
University on Saturday afternoon by a score of 86-61. In the
first half, SNHU (2-1) started with a 10-4 lead.
For Mercy (0-3), a jumper by Kortney
Parker (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) put the
Mavericks on a six-point run to tie the score at 10. The
score would again be tied at 13, until Mercy hit back-to-back
threes by Chaz Morrish (Douglaston, N.Y./St.
Mary's) and Colin Senior (Hackensack,
N.J./Hackensack) to take the 19-13 lead. The
Penmen answered back with a ten point run to take the 23-19
lead. Baskets were exchanged the rest of the way, and the
Penmen had the 31-28 lead at the half.
Mercy went cold in the second half, and SHNU dominated
play. The Mavericks committed 13 turnovers, and SNHU shot 56%
from the floor. Despite ten points by Ed
Wilson (Bronx, N.Y./Monsignor Scanlan), the Mavericks
were outscored 55-33. The Penmen took the game by a score of
86-61.
Wilson led all players with 20 points and Hasan
Powell (Bridgeport, Conn./Central) added ten
points.
The Mavericks return to action on Dec. 1 when they host C.W.
Post, the final game of the four game home stand.
