In the first set, Mercy started strong. A kill by freshman

be Mercy's largest lead of the night. Queens answered
back, and a kill by Stephanie Schroeder tied the set at five.
Schroeder then served for three straight points to give the Knights
the 8-5 lead. Queens then brought their lead to 16-10.
After a Knights service error, Gebhardt held the serve for four
straight points for Mercy, bringing the score to 16-15, keeping the
Mavericks in the game. Play continued tight, until Queens
pulled away, scoring six of the final eight points. Queens
would take the set, 25-20.
In the second set, Queens got out to an early 9-4 lead, and
would lead the entire set. Mercy scored three straight
points, including back to back kills by Gebhardt and Kassy Phillips (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) to
make the score 12-9, and bring Mercy within three. With late
set kills for Queens and errors committed by Mercy, the Knights
would score 11 of the final 16 points, to take the second set,
25-16.
The third set would see Queens get out to another early
lead. After a Queens attack error, Alex Oakes
(Cortland Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) held serve for three
points, including back-to-back kills by Gebhardt and Mirlusca Montes (Lima, Peru/Senor de la
Misericordia), Mercy would fight back to tie the set
at 12. Play would remain tight, but the Knights pulled away
at the end, scoring the final four points of the set, with the
final three being kills, all by Jovana Pavlovic. Queens would
take the set, 25-20.
Prior to the game, Mercy College honored on Senior Day Latoya
