The Mercy College women's basketball team (2-4, 0-2 ECC) rallied from a ten-point second half deficit, but still fell to the visiting C. W. Post Pioneers (3-2, 1-0 ECC) 61-58 in East Coast Conference action.

Sophomore Aysha Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) capped the second-half comeback with the final four points of a 10-0 run to tie the game at 52 with 6:11 remaining in the game. A three-pointer by C. W. Post's Janea Aiken gave the visitors the lead at 55-52, only to have Mercy freshman guard Venesha Hunter (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) make a layup to bring the score to 55-54.

Minutes later, with the score 60-56 in the Pioneers' favor, junior point guard Simone Williams (Waldorf, Md./Lackey) made a clean steal and easy layup to pull the Mavericks back to within two points at 60-58 with 19.3 ticks remaining.

The Mercy defense remained tough, and almost caused a turnover with 3.2 seconds remaining, but could not grab the loose ball in a mad scramble. C.W. Post's Felicia Joyner made one of two free throws with 1.1 seconds to go for the final score.

On the evening, the Pioneers' Aiken led all scorers with 26 points, including 12 free throws. Mercy had four players in double-digits, including Jasmine Williams (Stratford, Conn./Greens Farms Academy) with 12, Simone Williams with 11, and Aysha Williams and Talia Beaulieu (Waldorf, Md./Spellman College) with ten apiece.

Mercy returns to action on Saturday, December 4, at the University of Bridgeport. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
