Baseball Sweeps Pitt-Johnstown 4-2, 5-2, in Florida
BASEBALL SWEEPS PITT-JOHNSTOWN, 4-2, 5-2, IN
FLORIDA
The Mercy College baseball team swept a doubleheader in Fort
Pierce, Fla., today, beating Pitt-Johnstown, 4-2 and 5-2.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Bob Greiner, Mercy
is now 3-2.
In game one, Mercy rallied from behind with a three-run fourth.
Junior Graig Lauricella (North Massapequa,
N.Y./Plainedge), junior Michael Ferrante (Long Beach,
N.Y./Long Beach) and senior Marc
Dern (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream North) all had
run-scoring hits in the inning, with Dern driving in the eventual
game-winner. Senior Steve Merslich (Flushing,
N.Y./Francis Lewis) earned the win by pitching a scoreless
fourth inning in relief, while sophomore Billy
Dring (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) earned the save.
In game two, sophomore Walter Kowalczyk (Valhalla,
N.Y./Briarcliff) earned the win, as he started and threw four
scoreless innings. He scattered three hits while striking out four.
Lauricella had a two-run double in the first inning to get the
Mavericks started. Justin Muscarella (Plaidedge,
N.Y./Island Trees) had a pair of hits and an RBI.
The Dobbs Ferry nine will face local rival Nyack in a
doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, also in Fort Pierce, Fla.
