Game 2 Linescore

The Mercy College baseball team dropped a pair of home games to Bridgeport on Sunday, losing 5-1 and 5-3. The games were played at Harbor Yards in Bridgeport, Conn.

Bridgeport has now won three of the four games played between the two schools over the weekend. The final game of the series will be played on Wednesday, March 24.

On game one today, Bridgeport took a one-run lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly. UB then scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings, taking a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mercy came alive. Graig Lauricella (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) laced a single to left with the bases loaded, plating Eric Fazio (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees). The Mavericks could not push another run across, and the gap was closed to 3-1.

Bridgeport threatened again in the seventh, but could not score. The eighth inning, however, was a different story. The Purple Knights scored twice in the eighth, for the final 5-1 score.

Junior Matt Walsh (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) took the loss, scattering six hits in 5.1 innings, allowing three runs, only two of which were earned.

In game two, Mercy scored once in the bottom of the first, when a Walsh single scored Justin Muscarella (Plainedge, N.Y./Island Trees), who led off the inning by being hit with a pitch.

Bridgeport tied the game in the top of the fifth, before Muscarella scored again to push Mercy ahead, 5-2.

UB then got three more in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, Mercy scored another run on three hits. With the bases loaded, a Vinny Tesoriero (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) fielder's choice scored Lauricella. But the Mavs would get no closer, and Bridgeport won 5-3.

Junior Steve Merslich (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) took the loss, allowing three earned runs in 6.1 innings.

Walsh had four hits in game two, knocking in two runs. Freshman Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y. Valley Stream North) kept his bat hot with three hits in the game.
