Mercy Baseball Falls in Season Opener at Adelphi 10-1

The Mercy College baseball team opened the season this afternoon with a 10-1 loss to Adelphi University. The game was played at Baseball Heaven, in Yaphank, Long Island.

Adelphi took advantage of three errors on the day, and scored five runs in the third inning for the win.

Freshman Tom Cummings (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) took the loss for the Mavs, giving up five runs, all earned, in just two-plus innings pitched.

Senior Michael Grassano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) had an RBI for Mercy with an RBI walk in the seventh.

Junior Michael Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) and freshman Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream North) each doubled for Mercy.

The Mavericks travel to Southern Connecticut for a doubleheader on Saturday.
