Mercy Men's Lacrosse Battles #1 C.W. Post in 12-3 Loss

The Mercy College men's lacrosse program dropped its second consecutive game today, falling to C.W. Post 12-3. The Pioneers, the top-ranked team in the country in Division II, remains unbeaten at 4-0, including a 2-0 mark in the East Coast Conference, while Mercy falls to 1-2 overall, 0-1 in the ECC.

Mercy goalie T.J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) faced 50 shots on the afternoon, making 23 saves.

C.W. Post won the opening faceoff, and scored on its first possession. DiCarlo made several saves early, as the Mavs gained some composure and settled in. But CW Post would continue to ride hard on Mercy clears, forcing several turnovers. The Pioneers would manage 15 shots in the first 15 minutes, and took a 4-0 lead.

In the second, John Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) and Mike Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) scored goals, but C.W. Post extended the lead to seven goals at the half, 9-2.

The Pioneers scored thrice in the third before Fitzpatrick got his second goal of the game for Mercy and the 12-3 final.

Statistically, the numbers underscored the disparity between the two teams. C.W. Post out-shot Mercy 50-15, out-groundballed Mercy 28-12, and won 17 of the 19 face offs. Additionally, C.W. Post forced 24 Mercy turnovers, as the Mavericks only converted 16 of 26 clear attempts.

The next game for Mercy will be a home game on March 13, when Dominican University of California travels east. The game will be played at Mountain Lakes (N.J.) High School at 1:00 p.m.
