Junior infielder  Michael Ferrante (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) collected three hits, drove in a run and scored another as Mercy came from behind to defeat C. W. Post 4-3 in an East Coast Conference game on Tuesday.  Six other Mavericks players collected hits in the victory.

Senior  Matt Mareno (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) got the start for Mercy and pitched five strong innings.  He scattered three hits and allowed a lone run in his outing.  The game was scoreless until the fifth when Mercy scored twice.  With one out and no one on base, Justin Muscarella (Plainedge, N.Y./Island Trees) singled and stole second.  He came in to score the first run on a single from Marc Dern (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream North).  Dern later came around courtesy of a Ferrante base hit.  The Pioneers scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 2-1.

In the sixth, Tom Cummings (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) relieved Mareno and C.W. Post pushed the game-tying run across.  The Pioneers scored again in the seventh to take a 3-2 lead in the game.  Mercy came from behind to grab the lead in the eighth.

Ferrante led off the inning with a single.  Two batters later, pinch hitter Michael Grassano  (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) ripped a double that pushed Ferrante in and leveled the score at 3-3.  Freshman Eric Fazio (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) ran for Grassano and scored the go-ahead run on a clutch single from senior Julio Torres  (Harlingen, Texas/Harlingen South).

In the ninth, Billy Dring (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) came in and pitched a scoreless frame to record the save.  With the win, the Mavericks improve to 13-21 overall (8-13 ECC) and the Pioneers own a 22-11-1 mark (16-5 ECC).  Mercy returns to the diamond on Friday, April 23, as C.W. Post travels to Dobbs Ferry for a game.  The first pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
